Agape Mdumulla at Icelandic Fashion Week

After a brief pause of about three years, Icelandic Fashion Week will kick off in just two weeks, from September 2-6, showcasing the best names in Icelandic fashion, as well as selected designers from around the world.

What is unique about Icelandic Fashion Week is the unusual lighting, the “midnight sun,” and the natural backdrop to the event—none other than Iceland’s inspiring landscape.

Iceland Fashion Week was first launched in 2000 as the “Midnight Sun Fashion Festival” by Kolla Aðalsteinsdóttir, who, along with her partner Andrew Lockhart, changed the name in 2002.

The 2000 launch was held on Vatnajokull, Europe‘s largest glacier. Subsequent locations included Vestmannayer Island, the black ash of the Landmanulaugur volcanic mountain range, and the Reyjkavik Energy House.

One menswear designer who has been invited to this year‘s show is Agape Mdumulla.

Born in Tanzania, Agape was raised in North Yorkshire of the UK, graduating last year from the Manchester School of Art with a BA in Fashion Design. Agape is now based in East London.
