The Individualists: Winners of the 2nd Shinmai Crreator’s Project

Congratulations to the Individualists, who have been declared winners of the 2nd Shinmai Creator’s Project Fashion Contest at Japanese Fashion Week in Tokyo.

Shinmai menas ‘fresh rice’ in Japanese, a term that can be used as a metaphor to refer to young potential talent.

In the 2nd Shinmai Creator’s Project, only 4 contestants out of 37 brands from 11 countries were selected as fresh rice.

Luise and Franck won the competition with their 2010 autumn/winter collection entitled “Crying Light.”

The Individualists—fresh young talent like fresh rice!

“Birds” by the Individualists

When Luise and Franck first met in 2005 among the desks of a large fashion school in Paris, they had already formulated a clear idea of their projected menswear label—true Individualists at heart!

Two year later, their projections became reality with the launch of their first menswear collection in 2007.

This Franco-German duo reinterprets their inspiration from folk culture and post-modern architecture into minimalist and expressive collections of sartorial elegance and nonchalant urban styles.

Contrasting fragility and emotion with manliness, Luise and Franck reflect the modern definition of masculinity in each garment.

For spring/summer 2010, the Individualists have prepared a collection entitled “Birds,” for which they quote French playwright and director, Jacque Deval (1895–1972):

“God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.”
